1. How do you tell if a one-piece baby outfit is for sleeping or daytime? Cullen has gotten these cute little one-piece things, and I am so embarrassed that if he wears them to daycare the teachers are going to wonder why his lazy mom didn't take him out of his jammies.
2. Is it appropriate to bribe your daycare workers? I brought them cupcakes for Valentines Day. Do you do anything like that?
3. Why are there shoes for babies? I got some really cute shoes from friends for Cullen, and I always forget to put them on him. And once I tried to put them on, and I was afraid I was hurting him. Am I a bad mom if he doesn't always have shoes on?
4. Is there some secret to keeping baby socks on? Maybe that's what the shoes are for?
5. Why are baby sizes so weird? Cullen is only in the 40th percentile for weight an height, but he is already outgrowing some 0-3 month clothes and wearing some 3 month sizes (he is 11 weeks). If his is not even average for weight, what the heck is going on? And what is Ralph Lauren thinking? I swear, their clothes are TINY. I spent a ridiculous amount on a little outfit that was supposed to be for 3 month olds, and I swear it is already almost too small.
6. Why do people freak out about breastfeeding in public? I get not wanting to see someone's boob, but why is it so bad if they are covered up? I still don't have the nerve to do it... mostly because I'm afraid of being judged.
7. For those who are nursing and working, what do you do when you are in a work meeting and REALLY need to pump? I am so afraid of being at a hearing or a meeting and needing to pump. Some things really can't wait. I have thought about going to the bathroom to pump, but the pump is so loud, and I am afraid of what people will think if they come in the bathroom!
My opinions:
ReplyDelete1. If it has feet, it is pj's other than that it's just a guess.
2. Of course, as long as you don't take it too far. Cupcakes, no big deal.
3. If they have hard soles, then they shouldn't be made for babies. I love the crib shoes (ex: Robeez). You treat them just like socks and they stay on.
4. Some stay on, others don't. I've started just throwing away the ones that won't stay on.
5. Yep, the sizes are strange. By the way, Miles is 7 months old and wearing 18 month clothing. He's huge. Ralph Lauren and Gymboree run really small.
6. Don't worry about the people judging. If your baby needs to be fed, feed the baby. I do agree with covering up and at least trying to find the most private place around.
7. You may just have to wait to pump at times, which will in turn decrease your milk supply. I don't work, but I've been there. If you have to pump in the bathroom, don't feel bad about it. Nothing like sitting on a toilet being a cow.
I get just as frustrated about baby clothes! A 0-3 month is not standard measurement. They need to start a kind of European system based on shoulder to rump length and waist circumference. And they need to have subcategories like BH (big head) and SL (short legs).
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Cullen's integrating well into daycare! We look forward to meeting him. Y'all keep well!
Here's my thoughts...and of course you're not a bad mom! As first time mothers all we can do is guess and ask other moms!
ReplyDelete1. The footed outfits are called sleep n plays. Maddie lived in these for the first couple of months, but now she just goes to bed in them. If I find a really cute one though - I have no problem sending her to daycare in it. Do what's comfortable for you and Cullen and Im sure his daycare providers have seen it all - so don't fret!
2. Absolutely! Who doesn't love a good cupcake anyways???
3. I just started having Maddie wear shoes at 5 months...but not all the time and I don't send her to daycare in them (that's pointless). It's honestly more for dress up than anything. I promise if you're getting the right size they wont hurt. Right now though I only have her wear shoes with socks in case they do rub.
4. The secret is finding the right baby socks. I found the ones at BabiesRus that stayed on really good, but now we're ready to move up a size and I can't find them anymore. One tip is only buy the ones that fold down and have tight ribbing.
5. I agree on the sizing...but haven't found a solution other than buying way too many clothes!
6. You get weird looks when you breastfeed in pubic and I get weird looks when I pull out my similac on the go bottles...it's a catch 22. You can't win - so don't try. Do what's best for you and Cullen and forget about anyone else.
7. I have no experience on this, but maybe if you know you're going into a meeting or a hearing you should plan to just try to pump beforehand. And I think most women would understand if they saw you pumping in the bathroom so I wouldn't worry.
I am sure you are doing a great job!
We've talked about some of this stuff already, but here are a couple extra thoughts:
ReplyDelete(1) It doesn't matter at this age. You'll see other kids at daycare in the infant room in clothes that are CLEARLY jammies. At this point, they take so many naps, they may as well be comfortable. I think the kids in jammies at school are probably 2nd or 3rd kids, because those moms have gotten past the thinking that your 3-month old needs to be in an actual outfit to go to school.
(2) I don't think it has any effect, but it's definitely ok to do it! I have never given them food or gifts, but I am extra nice to those who take care of my baby!
(3) Don't worry about shoes until he can walk. Waste of money and effort. And they'll get lost.
(4) I agree re: folding baby socks. Those stay on way better. It is totally about finding the right brand. I always liked the baby gap triple fold socks before Rachel wore shoes. Later, when he is pulling up, you will need the kind with rubber grips on the bottom.
(5) I always thought Rachel's size was weird instead of the clothing size being weird. I bought her first 2T-sized clothes when she was TEN MONTHS old. And you have to figure out the sizing for each company. Rachel is always true to size with baby Gap and Janie and Jack, but wears two or three sizes larger in Carters and Hanna Anderson. You'll figure it out pretty quickly.
(6)/(7) No experience on these two, but the best advice I can give is that no matter what happens, don't stress. The path you take will be the best one for your family!
